The study of language and gender has been lasted for a long time. In1970s, thestudy of this field developed very fast. But, all the study of this field focused on theseEnglish language countries. And most of the study objects are the daily talk, workingtalk and family talk. These studies put emphasis on the sociolinguistics. In the processof English language learning, the gender differences exist objectively. Since thelearning ability, preference, motivations of different learners are different from eachothers. Thus, the learning results and language applied ability will be different.According to the predecessors’ experience, this thesis chooses the international trademajor students of Changchun University of Technology as the study objects. Study thelearners’ English achievements and learning preference by the questionnaire. Thisthesis includes five parts. The first part put forward the gender difference in theEnglish learning. In western countries, many scholars have done the study on thisfield, but in our country, less attention pay on it. The second part gives the literaturereview. The third part introduces the study method, instrument and participants. Thefourth part analyzes the data. According to the analysis, the results show that thefemales’ achievements are better than males’. This thesis analyzes some factors whichmay influence the language learning, such like physical factor, intellectual factor, andnon-intellectual factor. The last part is the conclusion. The differences between twogenders will show great influences on the English learning, so males and femalesshould take good use of their advantages.
