As a Chinese-American Diaspora writer, Ha-Jin’s writing has been strongly influenced by the post-colonialism context. In order to understand and expound the characteristics of Ha-Jin’s writing completely and thoroughly, the thesis has analyzed his personal life experiences, motivations of writing and the environment he individually encountered, and at the same time the observation of the tendency of re-construction of history, political correctness and change of themes in his works has also been made.The thesis consists of three parts and the first part has highlighted the development of the whole Chinese American Literature in terms of time and different writers’groups, and then the writing activities of Ha Jin have been positioned accordingly.In the second part the detailed text analysis has been made to Ha Jin’s works and thus the conclusion has been drawn that the tendency of re-construction of history and political correctness could be easily found in his works. Besides, the high importance has been attached to his descriptions of national identity of P.R.China and the thorough study has been made on the "cracks" of the national identity of P.R. China which have frequently appeared in his descriptions.The change of themes of Ha Jin’s works has also been pointed out in this part.The last part points out the very different attitudes between the readers in mainland China and those in other areas to Ha Jin’s works and gives an objective analysis in terms of history, politics, culture and ideology. |
