Well-known as “the King of the New Literary Stretches” for the exotic and ingenius legends, SunFangyou has “broadened the literature” in the form of the series of literary sketches of Chen Zhou. In hisworks, the gradual changes, in terms of narrative language and style, are obvious. Meanwhile, his plotarrangement has become stereotyped in the way of narrative pattern. His narrative characteristics resultfrom his preference for the application of narrative strategies and art, which affects the narrative angle, rhythem and the dramatic power. Besides, essentially his literary sketches out of diligent intentions aredistant from the ancient narrative convention—natural and casual, and also not in accordance with thethought “tranquil and peaceful”, proposed by the new literary sketches novelists. The educational circlesmisled us to get to know the definition of the new literary sketches, by using the title “literary sketches”while equating “new literary sketches” with flash fiction.Based on the text study, the paper makes a summary of the narrative characteristics of Sun Fangyou’snovels by adopting the modern narrative theories. In addition, the paper goes further in terms of the strategyof narrative models, and deduce the inflence made by that strategy. The paper is made up of five parts:Ⅰ. Brief introduction to Sun Fangyou and his series of literary sketches in Chen Zhou.Ⅱ. The summary of his writing tendency, including the gradual and obvious changes in his narrativelanguages and styles, and the trend of the combination of the classical chinese and the vernacular chinese, and of the transformation from elegance to vulgarness. Based on the analysis, a conclusion has been madethat the reasons why the languages have changed entirely different before and after the transformation arethe pattern conversion of the narrative angle from omniscient perspective to limited perspective, attemptingto involve the readers into the stories, letting them go through the ups and downs of the stories and sufferfrom the psychological stress, and making them shocked and amused aesthetically through the drastic turnsin narration.Ⅲ. The analysis of stereotyped routines in introducing the folk culture by studying Sun Fangyou’sliterary sketches. On the one hand, the author intended to increase the cultural content into the short stories, voluntarily taking on the responsibility of presenting and inheriting the folk culture, and balancing the modern cultural awareness and the literature production; on the other hand, the author’s narrative strategyout of diligent intentions—the pause in the narrative time—controls the process of the plot developmentand makes the changeover in plot during the relatively short time by the end of the story, which make thereader tense and shocked.Ⅳ. The analysis of Sun Fangyou’s exotic and ingenius plot in his series. The essence is the adoptionof the pair of contradiction—hint and reversal. The author sets traps through suggestive language and plot, misleading the readers into the false relationships, guiding them to predict the development and the endingof the story. But the reversal in the end makes the readers lost in their prediction and shocked at the ends, producing the drastic effect and involving the readers into the aesthetic appreciation. What’s more, in hisworks, Sun Fangyou emphasizes more the negative and misplaced hints than the positive and reinforcedhints, making some chapters a little odd with artificial obviousness, or making the reversals too fast andstrange.Ⅴ. The differentiation and analysis of the new and old literary sketches. The analysis lies in the studyon the reality and the modernity of Sun’s series, on the narrative techniques of the new and the oldones—natural and casual, and on the aesthetic appreciation—simple and elegant, tranquil and peaceful.
