The thesis compares the paintings of Egon Schiller with Gothic art from the Middle Ages, aiming atfinding out the gothic elements implied in Egon Schiller’ works and better understanding of EgonSchillerart of painting, and Gothic art style.At the end of the nineteenth Century Austria in the early twentieth Century, because the governmentCollege of art standard and limitation, the artistic atmosphere of dull and lack of vitality, the young artistsfor a new contagious art form, and has inspired style and spirit of culture change Gothic art form to getyoung artists respected, means that the rebel official college art creation rules, but also represents a kind ofinnovation fading western material culture of desire. Austria Vienna expressionist painter Egon Schiller wasone of them.In his short28years Austria Vienna Secession painter Egon Schiller not only created a lot ofgood works also formed his unique, distinctive style of painting. His bold and exaggerated lines and colors,geometric composition, and painting containing strong emotion give us a unique sense of mystery. Thismysterious and unique style have something in common with12th century Gothic art."Gothic" was firstderived from the Gothic family, which is used to describe all the rude, brutal, old things by the ancients.Medieval painting and building are known as the "Gothic art" in the history of art. The most famous Gothicart was Gothic architecture, it was from the12th century in France, and then gradually spread to Britain,Germany and Central Europe, Northern Europe. It Fade until the Renaissance came. Throughout the historyof art, Gothic art has its place, exerting a big influence on the occurrence and development of the art forms.Using Pan Malinowski’s image analysis method, the thesis studies Gothic art elements implied inEgon Schiller’s paintings from three levels, which are surface analysis, content analysis, and in-depthanalysis.The first one is Surface analysis. From the similar aesthetic taste, color, orientation and form of thecomposition embedded in the the lines, colors, composition, the thesis analyzes the gothic elements impliedin in the paintings of Egon Schiller.Chapter II is content analysis. Through the several periods of the art development, the expression ofart towards emotions and the use of painting symbols, the thesis analyzes the gothic elements inherent in Egon Schiller’s paintings.Chapter III is in-depth analysis. The thesis deeply digs out the underlying factors to show the gothicelements in his works, these factors includes Egon Schiller and his art style formed by the impact of socialand historical factors, the atmosphere of the art and the influence of the psychology, philosophy the painterundergoes during his life.As a admirer of Egon Schiller works of art and Gothic art, the writer looks for common factors cancause the recipient pleasant mood among them and tries to use image analysis to better understand EgonSchiller’s works and influence of Gothic art elements.
