Herta Muller is a contemporary German female writer who has won the Nobel Prize for Literature in2009. The present domestic research of Herta Muller’s works focus on writing theme, writing identity, poetic language and political concern, and there is not enough analysis of Muller’ s writing identity. Based on reading of Muller’s works, this thesis, from writing identity perspective, discusses Muller’s "double strange land" situation and different writing caused by ambiguous and difficult identity. In Romania, against the government centralization, Muller seeks homeland for the first time, resulting in the first layer of anxiety; in Germany, to get rid of distortion of human nature, Muller seeks homeland for the second time, resulting in the second layer of anxiety. To replace and get rid of the double anxiety, the writing of Muller has formed a unique writing mode:"depression-craving-discrimination-rediscussion". Discussing Muller’s exploration from group identity to self-identity, and even the identity of mankind, this thesis has profound enlightenment and universal values. Such kind of research will not only extend the Muller study area, but also enrich the "writing identity" theory, and has important significance for developing domestic cross-ethnic, cross-language, and cross-cultural research.
