On The Translation Of ’Black Phones’: Postmodern Poetics In The Holocaust Poetry Of Sylvia Plath

Since80s of the last century, all kinds of western literary theories have beenintroduced into our country, mainly through translating. However, most essays in theacademic periodical mainly focus on the studying and analyzing on the translation of theliterary works, few on the translation of literary theories.In the process of my translating, besides related translating theories, I have to considerother factors, such as the background of this theory, the feelings and attitude of the author.And for literary theories, it is important to make it accurate, smooth and understandable,among which the accuracy is put in the first place.Based on functional theory of translation, this paper makes a study on the translationof ’Black Phones’: Postmodern Poetics in the Holocaust Poetry of Sylvia Plath. First of all,it gives brief introduction of the background and the content of the literary theory; then, itsuggests some difficulties during translating and ways to solve them, which mainlyincludes methods of adding and omitting so as to keep it loyal to the original article. At last,this paper carries out the case analysis, mainly focusing on the description of the words,complex sentences and the relative poetry and the introduction to Sylvia Plath and thebackground of her creation as well.
