The daily life depicted by Li Jieren is the true social and historical fact. History is no longer authentic language of main ideology in the perception of Li Jieren, but rather reflected out of some daily trifles. So in eyes of his, the history of his hometown-Chengdu is not heroic interpretation of emperors and generals, a great revolutionary upsurge and splendid narration about great changes in society and politics, but a common, ordinary and fresh daily life. The thesis will discuss "Mighty River Novel" from the perspective of daily life. The first part has a discussion on the vivid description of home scenes of some common people. It records faithfully festivals and funerals, fresh foods, places of interest, ordinary streets and lanes, historical allusion and geographic fields, then comes to a conclusion of comfortable and pleasant life style and self-satisfied personality. The second part reveals all classes that Li Jieren having experiences of being a business man has contacted with, especially the middle and low classes. Thus Li Jieren usually presents the history of social change through romantic stuff between men and women and ups and downs of zilches’ fate. He gets rid of cultural elites’ top-to-bottom initiatory gestures, portrays the carnal world, approaches people and reflects the folk vulgar culture full of historical thought with extraordinary wisdom. The third part describes how Li Jieren, an intellectual who was affected by the May Fourth Movement Thought understands the relationship between tradition and modern age and constructs the futuristic nation.Li Jieren’s "Great River Trilogy" is famous for its unique aesthetic taste of daily life. This uniqueness is manifested in that Li Jieren melts history into "long river" which is constructed by daily life. Daily life contributes to the construction of cultural common space beyond the question for historical rationalism and class nature, which make literary works tend to be pluralism. When looking back on Li Jieren’s masterpieces, we still feel they are precious.
