Buddhism Geography Of Northern Dynasty

This paper makes a systematic research and discuss on the Buddhism in the northern dynasties through the research perspective of historical geography. Based on the historical information about time and space distribution and changing law and so on of elements of Buddhist faith in the northern dynasties, the main content specifically includes native place of Buddhist monks, distribution of preaching place, basic information of missionary monks from abroad, number and distribution of Buddhist temples, remains of Buddhist grotto temples, translation and compilation of Buddhist classic works, distribution of Buddhist schools, formation and changing of the central area of Buddhism and so on.With the objective research on the above historic facts, this paper further explores the relation between the factors of natural, social environment and so on and Buddhist transmission and development in the northern dynasties, further demonstrates the change of Buddhist geographical history and changing track of Buddhist faith centre, and tries hard to have a systematic and an accurate recognition to the formation process of Buddhism geography of the northern dynasties. Besides, according to the cultural differences in different regions and terrain of mountains and rivers, this paper divides the northern dynasties into six cultural geography region and makes a comparatively research on the situation of Buddhism faith in different regions of the northern dynasties.In the research method, this paper interprets the historic data and Buddhism classics about Buddhism of the northern dynasties in detail, extracts related information with Buddhism history of the northern dynasties and then makes a new summary and conclusion; at the same time, refers to a lot of the latest archaeological achievements and takes field investigation in our power.Chapter1mainly researches on native place of Buddhist monks, distribution of preaching place and basic information of missionary monks from abroad, accordingly has have an objective recognition to the transmission and faith of Buddhism in various regions of the northern dynastiesChapter2mainly researches on Buddhism temples and grotto temples and more objectively masters distribution and construction policies of Buddhist temples in the northern dynasties and some elements about cutting time and type, distribution condition, existing scale and so on of the grotto temples.Chapter3mainly researches on translation of Buddhism scriptures of the northern dynasties, writing of Buddhism works, academic schools of Buddhism and so on, and makes it clear that the historic information of Buddhist academic geography and changing track of Buddhist academic centre in the northern dynasties.Chapter4induces and demonstrates the general characteristics of Buddhism geography, mainly including the changing course of the Buddhist faith centre, difference of geographical region distribution of Buddhism and factors influencing regional distribution of Buddhism.
