English tends to use the impersonal subject, while Chinese tends to use the personal subject. This thesis analyses the manifestations of this difference and points out its causes. It also tries to show that the impersonal subject of English is not always transformed into the personal subject of Chinese, but that the translator should be flexible. Sometimes it is necessary to translate the English impersonal subject into the impersonal subject in Chinese according to the context. This is to conform to the usage of the target language while retaining the expressiveness of the source language.
