Chenguoquan Choral Works And Command Teaching And Research

Chen Guoquan, born in Luchuan,Guangxi, is a Hakka who is a contemporary composer,conductor,and music theoretician. He is a professor in Wuhan Conservatory of Music, executive director of the China chorus association, and vice chairman of the Hubei Musicians association, who is a rare musician for being a conductor and composer at the same time. Since1985, he has been a Master’s tutor. From1987, he has been a political adviser in Wuhan three consecutive times. In1992, he was given an Expert’s Allowance by the state council. In the same year, he was awarded the "Hubei Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contribution" award by the provincial party committee and government.Chen Guoquan has created and recomposed chorus works from different periods in different types and different styles. Some of these works reflect the spirit of the times, some are saturated with the spirit of the nation, some penetrate the feelings of the people, and some express sincere heart. Take "The Sound of Spring","Walk Into the Spring", and "Tujia Village in Sea Fog" as examples. They have all had a profound influence. There are some classical works he has made which are famous both home and abroad such as:the chorus works "Summer’s Thunderstorm" that was recomposed from a Guangzhou folk song,"Dragon Boat Tune" that was recomposed from a Hubei folk song,"Please Come to the Ends of the Earth" that was recomposed from a Hainan folk song,"Naluone Love Song" that was recomposed from a Taiwan folk song, and "Pearl of the Orient" that was recomposed from a nationally popular song. These have all become loved classical works. In addition, he also recomposed many chorus works like,"The Troika","Trout", and "Come Back to Sorrento"Chen Guoquan’s chorus works hold a pivotal position in the world of Chinese chorus music. This analysis of his superb adaptation, creation, skill, and distinctive artistic features are the reasons why it is held in such high regard.
