Cultural Perspective Of The Tanabata Literature Hanwei And Tang Dynasty

The Chinese nation has a long history with rich cultural heritage. The traditional festival is an important part of Chinese culture, such as Chinese New Year, Tomb Sweeping Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Tanabata Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival, Chung Yeung festival. Full of national characteristics, they are closely related to living habits, moral values and value orientations of the Chinese people. Today when people to conquer the world based on their cultures, the government and those concerned actively make their efforts to explore the traditional culture which was once neglected and to reaffirm its value and significance. Since2008, Tomb Sweeping Day, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival are included in the statutory holidays.People may re-experience the cultural connotation of the traditional festivals and customs when they are on holiday or visit friends and relatives. However, due to infiltration of foreign cultures, festivals like Valentine’s Day or Christmas are so popular in China, especially for young people. Different from the concept of recognition on moral of the Chinese nation, western holidays are characterized by revelry and romance. Under the pressures from both life and study, it is natural for young people to recognize foreign festivals. Worryingly, Chinese traditional festivals face an embarrassing situation. Re-interpretation of the traditional festivals and promotion on the culture of the traditional holiday customs, are urgent and necessary tasks.The Tanabata Festival, with a long history, is also known as the "Doll Festival","Needle Festival, or " QiQiao Festival. As Dong Naibin said in On Chinese Tanabata poetry of Tang Dynasty, Tanabata Festival is actually a unique Girls’ Festival in many folk festivals in ancient China according to its gender of participants as well as contents and patterns of the activity①. Tanabata Festival has a close relationship with the legend story of Niulang and Zhinu which is given a great deal of wonderful implications in thousands of years. By the impact of the foreign festivals in recent years, Tanabata Festival that once was ignored is now gradually being put on the agenda, and many places are seeking for local resources about Niulang and Zhinu and the Tanabata to propagate Tanabata Festival Culture.I heard of the legend story of Niulang and Zhinu, a romantic love story, in the childhood from my parents.I have been surprised in and admire for the rich imagination of the ancients. On the occasion of paper preparations, my tutor gave me great guidance and helped me to study on the traditional festival of Tanabata. I decided to take Tanabata festival customs and culture for the study to complete my master degree’s thesis writing.In the process of collecting research results of Tanabata and Niulang and Zhinu, I found that the subject has made considerable achievements. For instance, Chinese Tanabata poetry of Tang Dynasty of Dong Naibin studied Tanabata culture in Tang Dynasty from folk studies. Zhang Bo studies women’s psychology and emotion in Tanabata Festival with thinking of the fate of the Tanabata Festival, which are valuable results in Tanabata study.The paper analyzed unique cultural connotation of the Tanabata and cultural value of1Tanabata iterature in the Han and Tang Dynasties Festival drawing on the basis of the results of previous studies, by studying Tanabata which is the core of the traditional festival as well as researching on Tanabata customs and culture before and in the Tang Dynasty. The Tanabata literature is poems and articles whose titles or contents are related to Tanabata before and in the Tang Dynasty. Firstly, Sort out the origin and development changes the Tanabata festival with the connection ofancient traditional festival of women as the main participants.For example, there are many similarities between the Tanabata Festival and the ancient Chinese Shangsi section.The paper explores the Tanabata Festival cultural characteristics bycontrastandrefines my own views with integration of views of scholarsinrecent years. Secondly,I collected records about Tanabata poems from the early Qin Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty, analyzed the author’s creativeintent and the artistic features of the different times of Tanabatapoetry with the main features of each era and explored one of the cultural values and writing psychology of writers.Finally, the essay restates values and significances of reaffirmation of inheriting traditionalfestivals, and carrying forward the traditional holiday customs and cultural on the contemplation of Tanabata festival.What is more important, inheriting with absorbing and innovation with transformation of the traditional Tanabata festival activities enable themselves to advance with the times to accommodate the vast number of people’s psychological acceptance and to better carry forward the national tradition and heritage festival Folk Culture.
