The Feminism Consciousness Theme And Its Expression In Sandra Cisneros’ Work

Based on her special Mexican background and cross-culture based growing experience, Sandra Cisneros created8works, including essays, novels, poems etc., with her feminist subtle point of view as well as the gentle writing. She was accepted by the main literature circle in America,which attributes to her essay collection The House on Mango Street (The House for simplicity),and was regarded as one of the main representative writer of Chicano literature stream. She was greatly noticed by her special creating theme and style, and The House was selected into the American textbook and it has been studied in a great number. But based on the data collected, I find that the study is limited in extent, which means the study on other works beyond The House is pretty limited and no study on her works as a whole exists. The domestic study has a not better but worse situation. There are two reasons, of which one is as a work that is so well-received does reflect the writer’s writing theme and style, thus makes other works invisible. The second one lies in the fact that the writer has a very clear writing style and straightforward theme. Though the various form and emphasizes, the works have consistent and similar themes and styles, which leads to the similarity and limitation of the study. Although, the integrated study is an indispensable component in the literature critics, it has great meaning in establishing and responding the writer’s creating characteristics. This thesis studies Sandra Cisneros’works as a whole, so it is necessary and initial, also hard and originated because of the lack of previous study.Among all the themes, this thesis selects one theme-the feminism awareness for analysis. The feminism awareness is not only strongly expressed in The House, it is also reflected in heavy color in her other works, which may could regarded as a soul of Sandra’s work. And this is also the reason for her Feminism Writer tag. Though her insistent deny of that, we are still touched by the impressive feminism depict in her works. Even stronger one can be felt in her other works as the poem collection My Wicked Wicked Ways, Loose Woman etc. No study on her other works beyond The House is absent in the analvsis on the themes of Sandra Cisneros’works. As a female writer who depicts the feminism awareness as a plan, the themes constitution, the affection aspects and the narrative way were all out of her plan and origination. And the way of analyzing her works from the deep inside the text and the tiny details is necessary. Based on the feminism theory concept (feminism sociology, literature theory, narration theory are included), adopting the text analysis research method, this thesis studies the theme and its expressive way (the female images and narration are included) of Sandra Cisneros’works, analyzing the feminism awareness theme and its expression in great depth. The breakthrough in the theoretical depth and the content as well as the studding method is hoped.
