This thesis researches a few problems of the nowadays teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. It first describes some traditional and not traditional methods of teaching a foreign language. Then, using them, it analyzes these problems, their nature, the reasons for their existing and the consequences of that. It also suggests ways of solving them. The problems this thesis analyzes are teaching Chinese have to consider the mother languages of the students, teaching Chinese lacks repetition, the unknown characters, teaching Chinese is not systematic, and the exercises must be comprehensive and suitable for European students, the culture and the habits of the students must be taken into consideration when teaching Chinese.All the European experts of teaching a foreign language say that the teaching of a foreign language must consider the mother language of the student. When teaching Chinese, the mother language of the students is not considered and this makes studying Chinese a lot harder for the Europeans.Repetition also is a problem that almost every expert of teaching a foreign language speaks about. Language is not knowledge that one has to learn by heart, it is a system, that one must get used to use. On order to achieve this, repetition is a very important part of the process of teaching and learning. A lot of the teaching Chinese textbooks do not consider this problem and thus make studying Chinese harder than it actually is.For the students of the non characters countries teaching characters is a very important problem. How to make them step by step get used to using characters and not be afraid of the characters is also a problem that is not so easy to solve.The systematic character of teaching a foreign language is also a problem that a lot of experts speak about. It is a part of the teaching process that cannot be omitted. A lot of teaching Chinese textbooks do not consider that.When studying a foreign language practice is very important, and the useful character of the exercises is a must too. A lot of teaching Chinese textbooks on the opposite do not have enough exercises or have not useful exercises.Every person according to his culture and customs is able to accept, to find it very hard to accept or to not be able to accept at all some things, to find a text in the textbook interesting, boring or inacceptable. If when writing textbooks this problem is not considered, a lot of students can give up studying Chinese or think that studying Chinese is very hard or boring.All these problems have only one solution, when writing teaching Chinese textbooks or considering the method of teaching Chinese to European people, The Chinese and the foreign experts have to work together in order to achieve the purpose of making Chinese language not so hard to study.
