Study Of Literati Gathering Poems In The Middle Of Northern Song Dynasty

Literati gathering is an important form of socialization for ancient literati in China,and the creation of gathering poetry is one of the key components in Chinese ancientliterature. In the middle of Northern Song Dynasty, the activity of literati gathering in thecarrier of parties and groups was especially frequent, which became very popular at thattime. As a result, the number of created poems in the gatherings dramatically increased.Taking the middle of Northern Song Dynasty as the research phase, this thesisfocuses on Ouyang Xiu, who started as a gathering member and then gradually becamethe core person in the gatherings, to investigate the related literati gatherings and theirliterature creation in that period and understand the process how he led the poetryrevolution, and then investigate the reason for the gathering ethos at that time, and furtheranalyze the characteristics and effect of literati gathering.In the gatherings, Ouyang Xiuand his fellows have explored and attempted the theories of poetry creation for manytimes. He emphasized the power of groups, and the literati at that time preferred to realizeself-value in the form of groups. Therefore, they joined certain groups for the sake ofpolitical or literary morality and justice, and literati gatherings appeared on the scenefrom then on. The literati gatherings of the Northern Song Dynasty reflect the processhow the poetry creation of Ouyang Xiu and his fellows became maturity. Their works is aglorious page on the literature history in the middle of Northern Song Dynasty. Therefore,the study on the literati gathering in the middle of Northern Song Dynasty helpsinvestigate the reason for the gathering ethos at that time, and further analyze thecharacteristics and effect of literati gathering.In this thesis, all the annotated poems are selected from “Quan Song Shi” and “QuanSong Wen”. Starting with the interpretation of complicated words, tongjia(interchangeable borrowing) words, people’s name and place’s name, I then explainliterally quotations and historical facts. The comments from predecessors on some poemsare edited after the cooresponding annotations.
