The paper analyzes the forms of works at two noontides of figurative painting in human history and interprets visual representation of the works in virtue of the principles of visual perception from the perspective of formal language of painting so as to better understand basic principles and means of figurative painting. Italian Renaissance and the French neoclassicism paintings left a valuable visual treasure for our posterity; extraordinary ability and precious experience of forefathers are a treasure of the whole mankind; the author hopes that further exploration of the treasure has a certain reference value to figurative painting art workers. The paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction which clarifies the significance of this research, sketches domestic and overseas current research situation in this field, outlines the two noontides from the perspectives of historical, aesthetical and philosophical significance, and states the relationship between the two noontides. The second chapter is a sketch about the mechanism of visual description; our visual perception comprises two great parts:visual reception and visual cognition. The third chapter and the fourth chapter in coordinating relationship discuss the forms of the works at two levels: one is surface visual form; the other is deep visual form. The third chapter discusses the forms at the level of the surface visual form to reveal the values and utilizing principles of lines, shapes, light and shade in figurative painting. The deep visual form in the fourth chapter is a concept relative to the surface visual form in the previous chapter, and the fourth chapter analyzes spatial organization structures in deep vision, forces under the organization structures and "authenticity" of deep vision. The fifth chapter carries out comprehensive and comparative analysis on the art works in virtue of theoretical bases provided in the previous two chapters. The conclusion summarizes artistic characteristics of the Renaissance and the French neoclassicism.
