With the development of modernization of education, teaching equipments become increasingly advanced, which has promoted the development of English teaching reform. Traditional listening teaching uses single teaching mode which can’t meet with the needs of students and it will influences on the improvement of listening level directly. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce multimodality to English listening class. In addition, according to College English Curriculum Requirements, colleges and universities should remold the existing unitary teacher-centered pattern of language teaching by introducing new teaching models with the help of multimedia and network technology. The new model should be built on modern information technology, particularly network technology, so that English language teaching will be free from the constraints of time or place and geared towards students’ individualized and autonomous learning. The new model should combine the principles of practicality, knowledge and interest, mobilize the initiative of both teachers and students, and attach particular importance to the central role of students in the teaching and learning process. Multimodality teaching method possesses plenty of advantages. For example, it lays emphasis on the combination of sense organs. At the same time, multimodality teaching method emphasizes that using media can bring static resources, including clothing, hairstyle, and face; dynamic resources, like voice, expression, movement and posture to the process of teaching, which can produce much more association. Besides, multimodality still advocates that various teaching methods, for example, communicative methods, silent way, and audio-lingual methods should be used in the process of teaching. This requires that teachers should utilize different methods in accordance with different students and the interaction between teachers and students should be diverse. Moreover, in view of merits of multimodality teaching method, teachers should employ various methods in teaching so as to overcome the drawbacks of single teaching mode, in the meanwhile, to enhance students’interest, self-confidence and finally ideal teaching achievements can be obtained. Multimodality teaching method also appeals that making full use of resources of network and multimedia and a variety of visual, auditory means to stir student’s activity and interest under due conditions. This paper mainly adopts the methods combined by theories and experiment to research improvement of listening ability with multimodality-based in Higher-Vocational&Technical Education. This paper covers reviews concerning the development of English teaching methods of both abroad and home. Then, multimodality-based experiment is done. The subjects of the study is freshman in Ji Lin Teachers Institute of Engineering and Technology, all of them are non-English majors. Different teaching methods are adopted in experimental class and the control class. More attention will be paid to English original movies, English videos and English songs. Firstly, English movies, as the carrier of language, can provide authentic language materials for the students and create relaxed study atmosphere. Moreover, it can arouse students’learning interest. Due to such advantages, more and more students are fond of English movies. Based on the advantages of movies, the author makes a Preliminary investigation. The results indicate that most students are interested in this learning method. Thus, the application of English movies to listening teaching is conducted. Secondly, the writer introduces English videos into listening teaching. It is known that Language should be learned and practiced in authentic language surroundings; English videos can attract students’attention because of its stimulation to our senses. In addition, vivid pictures and scene can enable students to understand and memorize easily. Therefore, if appropriate English videos are used in the process of teaching, it will get twice the effort with half the work. Last but not the least, abundant listening materials are essential in order to change traditional listening teaching mode. So we have to attach the importance to English songs which are not only helpful to improve students’learning interest, and beneficial to correct their pronunciation, but also are useful to study spoken English and idioms.During the experiment, three examinations are given to the subjects. With the analysis of SPSS software, sharp differences can be observed clearly. According to the data analysis, listening score of multimodality-based classes is far better than that of non-multimodality-based classes. At the same time, students’ability of speaking, reading and writing are also strengthened in multimodality-based classes. That is to say, comprehensive ability of using English is improved accordingly. Hence, from the experiments we conducted we have got the conclusion that it is feasible and necessary to apply multimodality teaching method to English listening class.
