With the rapid development of economic globalization and information technology, grasping a foreign language can open up a new field, establish a communication platform and build a bridge to the world. After the putting forward of reform and opening policy, especially after China entering WTO for ten years, the connection between China and the world is becoming closer and the international communication is becoming more frequently. Therefore, higher demand of talents is needed. Under such pressure, more and more on-the-job personnel are returning to colleges and universities to receive further education. And English, as the necessary tool to pass on messages and exchange ideas and culture with the world, is an indispensable subject in the education of self-study examination.The current adult English teaching strategies of self-study examination follow the academic teaching system and methods. This teaching model lacks specialized teaching research and theories, and therefore, cannot meet the needs of actual teaching practice. Therefore, adult colleges of self-study examination should change their educational concept and reform the traditional education mode to improve teaching quality, enhance learners’ employability, and highlight the characteristics of adult teaching of self-study examination, and eventually cultivate technical talents with higher qualities. So as an important part of adult education of self-study examination, English teaching must also be actively reformed and innovated in teaching mode, so that it could play its due role in the system-construction of cultivating high-quality talents.The Instruction-Learning-Facilitation Model is also called3L Model which is a model formed through long-term and modern remote open education in Shanghai Television University. This model is a three-dimensional teaching model, which emphasizes on modern information technology, centers on learners’self-study, sets the teacher as a guider of learning, and supports multiple media teaching resources and interactive means. Aiming at the present problems in adult English teaching of self-study examination and the actual characteristics of the social on-the-job personnel, this thesis applies the remote education model, the Instruction-Learning-Facilitation model, to the practice of English teaching of self-study examination. The purpose of this thesis is to construct3L Model English teaching classroom. The new model strengthens interaction and cooperation between teacher and learners, and it enables adult learners to learn knowledge, develop abilities and cultivate a positive emotion and attitude in a relaxed and pleasant situation. Through the new model, adult learners could achieve comprehensive and sustainable development, and become higher vocational-technical talents with both English proficiency and high-qualities.During the four months, from March,2011to July,2011, the writer made3L model teaching experiment on students from Class One and Class Two in Adult-teaching Department of Huaihua College. First, the writer finished the theoretical construction of3L Model and constructed its theoretical foundation, including the theory of teaching design, self-directed learning theory and learning community theory. Second, the writer constructed the teaching objectives of3L Model, which were developing adult learners’English knowledge and application ability, training their self-directed learning ability and enhancing their cooperation ability. Five teaching strategies carried out in this model were put forward, including lead-in strategy, self-directed learning strategy, cooperative learning strategy, comment and induction strategy and affective motivation strategy. The roles of the teacher and adult learners are made clear. The teacher is guider, organizer, promoter and participant while the adult learners are active constructors of knowledge, participants of activities and promoters of self-qualities. Third, the teaching design of the Unit8in College English Self-study Course was taken as an example to present the application of3L Model in adult English teaching of self-study examination. Finally, the writer conducted an empirical study on the constructed3L Model. The writer applied the3L Model to teach adult learners in experimental class while employed the traditional teaching model in control class. Through adult learners’grade changing and the result of questionnaire, it is proved that the constructed model is effective.
