This dissertation is primarily focused on the issues concerning the musical language and performing skills of Suite Bergamasque.In terms of musical language, this dissertation adopts statistical and information retrieval methods while combining theory and practice. It reveals the characteristics of Debussy’s piano music such as color and independence by analysis of the texture, harmony, tone and musical structure of Suite Bergamasque.This dissertation also reveals the presenting approaches and training methods of Suite Bergamasqueby discussing the image of music, the tempo, speed and strength of performance, and the required timbre. In addition, it demonstrates the function and importance of Debussy’s early works in serving the purpose of color of his piano music in a either direct or indirect way.
