Politeness has always been one of the focuses of study in the field of pragmatics.Scholars in this field have conducted their researches from different perspectives and havehelped modify politeness theory. However, people rarely notice the necessity to carry out astudy on impoliteness, which occurs quite often in daily communication. This researchcompensates for the research of impoliteness.Based on the relevant researches carried through by domestic and foreign linguists, thestudy is in all attempt to analyze the discourse in the talk show Mr Zhou Libo’s LiveShow.The study is carried out from the perspective of impoliteness,by employing somepragmatic’ theories, including theories related to politeness and impoliteness, trying to revealhow talk show use the strategies of impoliteness (Bald on Record Impoliteness; PositiveImpoliteness; Negative Impoliteness; Sarcasm or Mock Impoliteness) to achieve humor. MrZhou Libo’s Live Show, a recent popular Chinese talk show, is hosted by the stand-upcomedian Zhou Libo and presented, as it often is, in the form of his monologue.The data for analysis are collected from10episodes of the program which are selected atrandom. The researcher watched these episodes repeatedly on the CDs and at the same timecarefully transcribed each of them in words in written forms.By exploring the humor of the impoliteness discourse in Mr Zhou Libo’s Live Show, thisthesis may widen the application of pragmatics in the talk show and contributes to a betterunderstanding of variety show from a different perspective.
