There was no doubt that Rushdie,a Indian-born British writer,was one of the most famous writers of the Year on the contemporary English literary. His works were a mixture of the East Culture and the West Culture like himself.Under this hybridity,Rushdie often felt perplexed and confused about self-identity and tried to find himself in it. Therefore, this paper attempts to discuss Rushdie’s opinion of describing the current hybrid state of immigrates and the hard interior life of exploring、 thinking、and rebuilding a new self-identity after various puzzles in his three major representatives works:"Midnight children","The Satanic Verses","The Moor’s last sigh"The paper is divided into five parts.The preface introduces Rushdie’s life and his works and it analyzes the hybridity of his works for preparing the later discussion. And then, it introduces Rushdie’s complex cultural identity, and this identity brought him confused.The first chapter is on the basis of "Midnight children",which introduces Saleem’s hybrid life and the cultural conflicts of the East and the West. It expresses the author’s confusion of hybrid identity and the sense of loneliness and wandering sense which is difficult to disperse from indirect sources. The second chapter which is focuses on "The Satanic Verses" analyses what Chamcha and Gibreel who came from India suffered after they immigrated to England and the immigrates’identity losing and mental predicament,which expresses the author always tried to find the way to how to rebuild self-identity.The third chapter tries to have a further discussion about Rushdie’s inner world in "The Moor’s last sigh",this novel revealed Rushdie’s frustration and anxiety which due to failing to seek for cultural root from mixed culture, however the author was never giving up thinking. This paper has made some analysis of Rushdie’s thought process of confusion-exploration-thinking through these discussion about the three novels. The epilogue summarizes that although Rushdie had been always making great efforts to seek for a way to establish his own identity, he encountered continuous obstacles for varied reasons.
