The European and American Matheson economic activities are importantIssue Chinese modern economic history studies, researching the activities of theMatheson can help us to know more that modern capitalism countries adopted theprocess of economic aggression. Before the opium war, Guangzhou was the onlythe opening port, the establishment in China for Europe and the United Statesforeign businessman given an opportunity, but also for the foreign economicactivities in China lay the basis of development. The imperialist aggression Chinaeconomy in the process, the role of the first foreign army actor, opium war lost inChina, the Qing government was forced to open five trade, leading to furtherexpand the scope of foreign activities, further tightened the pace of Chinaeconomic aggression.Europe and America foreign major capitalist countries in order to facilitatethe economic activities and have established trade organizations in China, it is akind of special form of the imperialist countries economic invading China. Thisarticle will take the Matheson’s economic and trade activities of the European andAmerican countries in China as the research object, selecting the1770s to the1850s as the research time interval, discussing the European and AmericanMatheson production, the development and characteristics of economic activities,to do a comprehensive and systematic investigation of the European and AmericanMatheson economic activities in China during this periods.The1770s to the outbreak of the opium war, this is a capitalist countrylooted raw materials, colonial expansion of the period and the formation of theMatheson periods in China.
