The Study Of The Metaphor In The Car Toons

The Conceptual Metaphor Theory that came out in1980s expand the metaphorsfrom the fields in traditional rhetoric to the fields of thoughts, which promote thedevelopment of the cognitive linguistics. In order to prove that this theory isscientific and accurate, the scholars in overseas begin to study the multimodalmetaphors in ads, comics, cartoons and finger alphabet etc in recent years, but only afew internal scholars study it.Because that there are many metaphors in cartoons and only a few scholars ininternational and domestic study it, the thesis focus on the study of metaphors incartoons. The following questions will be argued: firstly: Weather do metaphors existin cartoons? The result will show us weather CMT true or false? Secondly, howhumans get the true meanings of the authors of the cartoons through the right way ofthinking? So the results can enrich the content of the Cognitive Linguistics andpromote the development of the pragmatics.Thirdly what is the quality of themetaphor in cartoons comparing with that in languages.According to the process of interpreting the cartoons by human beings the thesisis divided into four parts. We simply introduce the development of the metaphors andthe situation of the study in international and domestic in the first part. In the secondpart we concentrate on studying the categories of the metaphor and the way of theirorganization. In the third part we analyze that how the readers interpret the metaphorsin cartoons. It includes the input of the information and the operating mechanism ofthe metaphors. In last part, we prove that there exists CMT in cartoons throughexamples and CMT is right.
