The study on text comprehension is an important part of cognitive psychology research, the situation model is consider as an advanced form of text representation, so it receivessignificant attention from researchers, the space dimension of situation model is one of theimportant investigated key points. The researchers use learning and anaphora solution toexplore the distance representation in reading comprehension. The researchers use the readingtime of anaphora word as the indicators to detect the spatial distance representation. Ineveryday life people’s behavior is always connected to the goal, the nature of the goal willaffect the behavior. In this study, we will research the effect of urgency of goal androute-angularity on distance estimation, by doing these things; we will research the effect ofurgency of goal and route-angularity on distance representation in text comprehension. In experiment1, participants read narratives naturally, the narratives are description ofthe space and the protagonist turning, we control the path distance and straight-line distancebetween arrival points and anaphora location. The research use the turn number and theurgency of goal as independent variable to explore when the goal is urgent whether theroute-angularity effect is still existing or not in the natural reading, and to explore the effect ofthe complex level on route-angularity effect in text comprehension. In experiment2, we apply the urgency of goal as the independent variable. We use themethod of synchronization presented by the discourse and the protagonist’s routes, so theparticipants can follow the protagonist’s routes in real time. We record the participant’sreading process by using eye tracker to explore the mechanisms of situational model in textcomprehension about urgent goal. The experimental results show that:(1) On the condition that the goal is not urgent, theroute-angularity is really effect the distance representation in text comprehension. theroute-angularity effect exists. When the space described simple (the turn number is less than2)the target sentence reading time increased when the number of paths turn was increased. when the space described complex (the turn number is more than2)the route-angularity effect doesn’t exist.(2) On the condition that the goal is urgent, theroute-angularity effect also exists when the space described the turn number less than4. thetarget sentence reading time when the text has one turn was significantly more than0turns,although the target sentence reading time when the text has4turns was more than1turns. Thetarget sentence reading time when the text has5turns decreased to the level of0turns.(3)When the text was described as the urgent goal, readers constructed spatial situation modelthrough space bypass for anaphora resolving start with a turn, readers was quicklyback to refer to the back refers to their location through the space bridge, but they needto spend more resources to determine the correctness of the destination, the total fixationtime of back refers to their location increases with the number of turnssignificantly increased.
