Since the20th century, the study of literature gradually moved toward culturalstudies,"identity" as a major theme in the field of cultural studies, not only stressed thedifferences between individuals, but also stressed the same between groups. The rapiddevelopment of capitalist economy and the ever-accelerating process of globalization, notonly strengthen the wandering experience, but also exacerbated the sense of alienation andalienation experience, individual and ethnic identity in the process for recognition worthexploring.In this paper,"native son","Invisible man","Song of solomon" as research text, attemptsto explore the African-American in the United Stated how to build their identity. The threeworks presented various periods of the blacks wanted to be Americans to want to berecognized as human self identity process. Bigger in "Native son" living at the bottom of thesociety, and fear about the White World, the fear and self-negation makes he thinks that blackis bad nigger, the only way to realize sense of presence is violent. Although his manner is tooextreme, but the author wants to express that bigger hope recognized as an American. Thenominate heroine in "Invisible man" is always camouflage himself to cater to the White, butthe White world is still to ignorant him, so he lost the human consciousness, in accidentallyfall into the hole, he realize that and burned all identity proof from White, and regain thesense of oneself. Milkman in "song of solomon" came from the middle class, superiormaterial life has created a set of white values, in the process of seeking family treasure, heaccepted the baptism of black culture, gradually abandoned white values, realized spiritualrebirth..African-Americans’ situation is more complex than other ethnic groups in United Stated,how they can realize their own identity, which requires the joint efforts of black and white twocamps. The notion that racism and white change to democracy’s promise, to solve thisproblem is the external driving force, and the black hand is needed to complete their ownpolitical, economic, the soul of the remodeling, fundamentally realize their own identity.
