This thesis tries to integrate the theories of conceptual metaphor and critical discourse analysis to unveil the respective ideologies of China Daily and The New York Times through a case study of reports on Chinese migrant workers. As a form of discourse, news report is influenced by certain social ideology which is correspondingly mirrored by the news report. Particularly, the research of conceptual metaphor in the news report discourse will contribute to the exposure of the implied ideology of a newspaper. The study result shows that the two newspapers under different national benefit, culture tradition and political system are definitely influenced by the national ideology, the mainstream social values and the government as well. Generally speaking, China Daily pays more attention to migrant workers issues from various aspects in the economic transition. As a foreign newspaper, The New York Times holds a negative tone to stress the business relating issue and the social conflicts in the Chinese society.
