With more and more people paying attention to the concept of teachers’ beliefs, manyresearches have conducted concerning this concept. Though studying about the literature, theauthor found that some research at home and abroad focus on the concept, and some of themare about theoretical foundations, less on the relationship between inner factors of teachersand their external behavor or influence on students. Not mentioned about taking nativeEnglish speaking teachers as samples.Though learning and summarizing the existing materials about teachers’ beliefs and theirteaching effectiveness, the author took83students and7native English speaking teachers ofEnglish major as subjects. All of these processes aim at discussing the correlations betweenthe teachers’ beliefs and their teaching effectiveness.The author adopted methods combinated of quantitative and qualitative researchmethods. For the quantitative study, the author used questionnaires as research tools, and theSPSS17.0to analyze the data. For qualitative research, semi-structured interviews andclassroom observation are adopted in this study. All the contents were taking records on thepaper. Eventually giving the following conclusions: the teachers’beliefs are similar from eachother; these teacher’ beliefs of English major are both correlated and not correlated with theirteaching effectiveness at oral English class. From the data analysis the author can find thestrong correlations exist between teachers’ beliefs and teaching effectiveness on English andEnglish learning. While the correlations are quite weak between the teachers’ beliefs and thelearners. The correlation is moderate in teachers’ beliefs and English teaching; giving somesuggestions on how to promote their teaching effectiveness though adjusting parts of theirbeliefs on the following parts: adjust the teaching contents; diversification of instructivemethods; how to adjust their teaching methods according to the difference between theChinese and American cultures.
