| With the rapid development of economic globalization and informatization,international trade become more and more frequently. China has become an importanttrade partner to Western Country as China’s economy has developed promptly. As aresult, the demands of talents who can master the knowledge of Business Chineseconfront a sharp increase all over the world. The business letters are wildly used totransfer business information. Therefore, business writing play an important role incommercial intercourse. Claims and claims settlement are inevitable between businessdealers. These things are tough and intractable. When our rights are violated, we willwrite a letter to complain and ask for compensation from the offenders. The replyfrom the offenders are generally called claims settlement letters.The claims have aclose connection with mutual interest, so both sides must pay a great deal of attentionon the claim letters. Only by this can they achieve win-win and longterm cooperativerelationship.This paper will make a description of the investigative setting，purport，objectiveand process. Then we collect160examples of claim letters. The study is conductedfrom three angles, namely, linguistic, pragmatics and formation. English businessinstruments and models. Select mainly related to the establishment. Finally, we drawsome conclusions from all above studies. First, claim letters are high efficiency,precise，courtesy and unique in commercial trade. The key of writing claim letters isthat we must comply with cooperative principle and politeness principle. Second,words and sentences used in claim letters are well organized. Third, claim letters have a complete expression, generally speaking, the main body includes four parts:introduction, main narrate and epilogue.This paper can offer some help for the business people to have comprehensiveand applicative understanding about claim letters.
