As an American writer, Dan Brown became well-known for his popular novel-The Da Vinci Code in2003. All of Dan Brown’s five novels, which are entitled cultural suspense novels, are among the best-sellers. Especially The Da Vinci Code, as the hottest topic, formally brings Dan Brown into the literary and academic field.The Da Vinci Code initiates a substantial discussion since it has been published and the hottest is the debating of its truth and fiction. As for literature criticism, most commends are negative. Besides introducing this novel, most domestic scholars viewed this novel from the perspective of cultural or religious studies. However, few people concern the code-chain in this novel and the sign-chain text, that is to say, from the perspective of semiotics. Dan Brown chose a conflicting theme and combined it with the producing of literature skillfully. While he wrote consciously about various puzzles and query to the traditional authority and religion, he also expressed his idea of aimed-at-readers literature unconsciously. Facts are not important to post moderns and they are taken more by inquiry and expression of emotions. In a novel combining true history and fiction, the exploration of a semiotist and a code expert touches the nerve of every reader.People living in the postmodern society have been impacted by symbols. Dan Brown knows readers’mind best and offers a perfect sign-chain text as a popular novel. After reading The Da Vinci Code, maybe we don’t think it is good in wording, but are fascinated by its well plotted story, which is full of knowledge, mysterious codes, breath-taking plots and high-speed narration. While the writer encodes the language signs peacefully, he expressed his courageousness to break the authority, which captured the favors of postmodern readers and represents the deeper spiritual life of the society.Key...
