| Because humans have the high quality of the human face processing, the problemabout the face recognition neural system is being researched by a large number ofresearchers. As a unique ideographic, the Chinese character recognition mechanism hasthe great similarity with the human face recognition in the temporal and spatial. Thepresent studies for the Chinese characters recognition mechanism mainly focus on thevoice and semantic research, while the studies about the primary visual processing ofChinese characters itself are still not enough.The results about the neural mechanisms underlying both the human faceprocessing and Chinese characters processing are still undefined and controversial. Forthe face processing neural mechanism, there are mainly two different viewpoints todiscuss:(1) the special perceptual processing for the human face;(2) the faceprocessing is effected by the visual expert. The study about the Chinese characterprocessing neural mechanism mainly focuses on the aspects of the inversion effect andthe visual expert.Through the present study on the inversion effect of both Chinese characters andthe face by functional magnetic resonance imaging, the similarities and differences onthe neural mechanisms of the face and Chinese character cognition are discussed indetail, the results show that the inversion effect is also present in the Chinese characterprocessing with the visual expert; In addition, the dynamical causal modelingtechnique is used to research the regions of interest for the face or Chinese characterswhen to invert its direction and the effect of the visual expert underlying the neuralsystem of the face and Chinese characters processing. The result shows that both theprocessing is being turn to the processing like objects’ while the face or Chinesecharacter is inverted, and the visual expert is related to the fusiform face area andvisual word form area. |
