The news is an important media to transmit the social information and reflect the social reality. Its affects are irreplaceable and the news language which is a carrier to spread information is in fact influenced by many factors such as society, economy and culture. In order to exert its function to gain different social ends, the presentation of news language owns distinguishing features. But the decisive factor for the explanation of the uniqueness about news language is still unrevealed, which attracts many scholars to take part in the research on this issue.Nowadays the study of news language is mainly conducted from two aspects:(1) Common Linguistics which focuses on the micro study of pronunciation, words and words combinations (2) Pragmatics which starts from the macro perspective to have an analysis on what elements could exert their influences to the final linguistic output in news language, emphasizing the close relationship between language and society. Many famous scholars have conducted the study from various angles to seek the elements which could determine the unique linguistic features in news language and abundant achievements have been obtained:(1) Famous English philosopher and linguist Leech starts from the aspect of politeness to illustrate that to different groups of people who receive the news, the degree of politeness is different in their mind, so distinctive treatments should be taken when reporting the news.(2) English philosopher Austin has a analysis on the locutionary act, illocutionary act and perlocutionary act in news language by applying the Speech Act Theory.(3) Famous cognitive psychologist Wilson uses the Relevance Principle to analyze the inner relevancy among the news speeches and states the method for the right understanding of the implicative meaning in the language of news. All of these studies have explained the uniqueness and specificity of news language from their perspective.This article starts from Verschueren’s Adaption Theory to have the final conclusion that the adaption to the social, mental and physical world is the key element for the determination of the originality in news language. In this paper six chapters are divided and the first chapter mainly introduces the study background and objective. The second chapter focuses on the literary review of news language. In third chapter the theoretical foundation and research methods are illustrated in detail. The fourth chapter describes the uniqueness of language in news from major linguistic perspectives, and the last two chapters state that from the analysis of the data, the application of Adaption Theory in news language could reasonable interpret the output mechanism in the linguistic selections, drawing a conclusion to this article.
