Liu Jie is one of representative historians who are studying on the Chinesehistoriography in twentieth century in China.‘The Manuscript of Chinese historiography’which was written by Liu Jie reflects the important change from embryonic to mature. Thisarticle is mainly based on Liu Jie’s works to analyze his deep thought of historiography. Itdiscusses from Liu Jie’s origin of historiographical thoughts, as well as how these thoughtseffects on his practice, and the position of Liu Jie’s historiographical thoughts in the study ofChinese historiography in twentieth century in China.From Liu Jie’s teacher, Liang Qichao, Liu Jie inherited and developed the theory whichis focusing on the historical philosophy historiographical thoughts. In addition, he explainshistoriography should be based on the historical compilation and supplemented by historicalphilosophy. Furthermore, Liu Jie pays more attention to textual criticism, while at the sametime, he also believes textual criticism should under the guide of a correct historicalphilosophy. Not only accepting all the theories from others, but also Liu Jie broke the existingthe historical thoughts and put forward his own statement. Finally, Liu Jie is a distinguishedperson linking the preceding and the following in the Chinese historiography and made anoutstanding contribution to the Chinese history study, and his achievements are worthstudying and researching.
