Kant and the Problem of Metaphysics(Kant Book)was Heidegger’s interpretation ofKant’s Critique of Pure Reason. Heidegger put in the book that the question withwhich Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason dealt fundamentally was not just anepistemological problem how science was possible, but also an ontology questionhow knowledge was possible. The possibility question of the ontology whichHeidegger’s fundamental ontology sought represented that how priori syntheticjudgment was possible in Kant’s theory. According to Heidegger’s understanding,Kant’s argument was this: the origin of the limited knowledge is identified as twobasic sources of the mind: the priori perception and cognition in people themselves,by the former objects are given, by the latter objects are thought. Because of thisduality of the source, only through the common roots of transcendental imagination, could some limited knowledge achieve its nature. Further, Heidegger believed thatthis possibility of transcendental imagination was benefited from the timeliness, which made transcendental imagination possible. Kant’s theory of time was just aform of intuitive sensibility, in which Heidegger found the entry point of the ontologyresearch. However, not only did Kant go on to study the transcendental imagination rooted inthe timeliness, but he canceled the independent and eminent position whichtranscendental imagination had acquired in the second edition of Critique of PureReason, and arranged it as a low level of capacity under apperception. The centralposition that Kant’s transcendental imagination had established went against thewestern philosophy that emphasized the tradition of subjective cognitive capabilitysince Descartes. In the face of the threat from traditional philosophy, Kant had tochoose back down, in addition, in his later thoughts, Kant did not go into theconsequences of ontology if people’s knowledge was limited. The limitation ofknowledge of the people was just based on the finiteness of human existence. Thus, Heidegger asserted that the foundations established by Kant’s metaphysics were notsecure. Along the metaphysical thought of ontology, Heidegger went on and studyhow a limited awareness could reveal the meaning of being at the timeliness.Heidegger began the construction of metaphysics. Thus, the starting point found byKant was replaced by Heidegger’s fundamental ontology.Heidegger’s interpretation of Kant’s philosophy was a meaningful dialogue betweentwo philosophers, was a preparatory elucidation of the foundation of metaphysics.Kant’s metaphysics was a more rigorous scientific metaphysics, and was a form ofepistemology metaphysics. This metaphysics was still marching in the metaphysicalroad paved by Descartes’ I think. In relation to Kant, Heidegger is to build a realmetaphysics on the sense of ontology. The metaphysics founded by Heideggerconcerns the actual existence of life. The reason of Heidegger’s explanation ofviolence about Kant was for the task of interpretation of Kant’s Critique of PureReason into groundwork of metaphysics. The aim was to show the problem ofmetaphysics as a problem of fundamental ontology. On the basis of the cleanup of theforgetting of Being traditional metaphysics and the foundation of the new metaphysics,Heidegger started a idea of fundamental ontology, which outlined a method by whichthinking about the problem of being, realized the change from traditional metaphysicsto modern philosophy: the shift from epistemology to ontology.By the critique of Kant’s metaphysical foundation, making an investigation on thecontemporary forms of metaphysics and the trend of the future was just whatHeidegger’s violent interpretation for on Kant.
