This is a translation project report on Innovating EFL Teaching in Asia(chapter9and chapter12). It consists of20papers on EFL teaching written bysome experienced EFL researchers and teachers working in Asia. The authors pointout that there is no clear definition of what it means to teach English as a foreignlanguage rather than as a second language. So that this book offers a distinctlyAsian voice for English language education and addresses some of the uniqueneeds of Asian learners in EFL contexts. Both Chapter9and chapter12set itsbackground in China, respectively introduces innovating EFL teaching of speakingand reading. Translating these two chapters can offer some insights to EFLresearchers and teachers in China.Four parts are included in this report: part one mainly introduces thebackground information, goal and structure of the report; part two talks about thesource text, including introduction to the authors, contents, structure and itslanguage features; part three discusses the difficulties encountered by thetranslators and the strategies taken by the translator; part four is to sum up theexperience got by translator.Guided by the communicative strategy put forward by Peter Newmark, translator focuses on completely conveying the meaning of the source text bytaking a variety of methods, in an aim to make the responses of target languagereaders similar to that of the source language readers.
