The Sociolinguistic Research Of Benxi’s Geographic Names

The geographic names are part of the vocabulary, and linguistic phenomenon ofstable, contains a large number of social and cultural information. Benxi City, locatedin the southeast of Liaoning Province, due to various reasons, the research of itsgeographic names include its Sociolinguistic research is lagging behind. This paperstudied sociolinguistic theory and method of Benxi geographic names, for thelanguage and cultural values, fill the sociolinguistic research gaps of geographicnames of Benxi City.This paper takes564Benxi geographic names as the object of study, which isabove the country level. The study is based on the local history literature andyearbooks, census data, analysis and synthesis of the four districts under thejurisdiction of two counties in Benxi City. Basic on the work of Examine the literature,use fieldwork to complete the information. After a comprehensive collection ofinformation, this paper use sociolinguistics perspective to reveal the characteristicsand laws of Benxi naming of names, and to explore the relationship between Benxigeographic names and social culture.This paper consists of three parts.The first part is the analysis of the basic structure of the geographic names inBenxi, include the syllables and words constitute.The second part is the summary of the characteristics of the geographic names ofBenxi, there are four characteristics: dominant two-syllable geographic names,dominant Chinese etymology of geographic names.The third part focuses on the close relationship between Benxi geographic namesand social cultural, from following areas: geographical features, immigrationsituation, military activities, religion, economic activity and political movement.
