Spirituality is always inextricably linked with religion, it has been given a brush offbecause of the emphasis on science, logic and rational thinking. But as more and morepeople who aspire to spiritual growth seeking help in mental health field, and thedevelopment of religious psychology, the combination of psychological counseling andspirituality is more and more tightly in western, also the application of the spiritualityexpansion from special groups to the general population, Chinese scholars have also begunto focus on such topics. In order to find the effectively spirituality intervention methods forChinese clients, we should indigenized spirituality firstly.This study reviewed the theoretical study and practical achievements of spiritualityand spirituality intervention in different cultures and in different areas, compiled aninterview outline about spirituality and spirituality intervention themes. Ten participantswere interviewed and taped by using theoretical sampling method, changed the interviewrecording into word and analyzed by grounded theory, preliminary constructed atheoretical framework of spirituality and spirituality intervention, the results are as follows:(1) The definition of spirituality and its characteristics, manifestations, influencing factors,role and foster methods;(2) The meaning of spirituality intervention and its applicableconditions, content, techniques, stages, purpose.The significance of the research is to reduce religious mystique, provide anindigenized and cultured method for psychological counselors to guide clients by diggingthe inner spirituality, promote counseling outcome.
