| Ever since humans are born, they have innumerable links with materials in objective world. Materials are not only the basis of development of human civilization, but also are the physical embodiment of artistic creation. Ceramic art is applying pottery and porcelain clay as the material to conduct artistic creation. With the development of social economy and innovation of culture and arts, ceramic material keeps realizing self-renewal and self-transcendence as a type of ancient art material. Under the background of the third science and technology revolution and the emerging of material art as well as in the development process of contemporary and present ceramic art, the ceramic material has gradually evolved into the means and carrier of artists for emotion and concept expression and delighted in the contemporary context. This transformation is a dynamic process, which involves substance, languages and spirit. In the contemporary transformation of traditional ceramic material, not only does the types of material increase and are functions expanded, but also the relations between clay, which is as the objective material, and subject of artistic creation has also changed. The artists have conducted experimental innovation and self-emotion devotion to the material. In the conversation of "clay nature" and "human nature", the ontology language of material is highlighted, the nature of clay achieves the largest releasing and the aesthetic value of contingency and defective beauty are revealed. As the contemporary art media, the ancient ceramic material is carrying cultural connotation of the times, conveying the concept of contemporary art, exhibiting a brand new attitude and art appearance, and meanwhile promoting the contemporary ceramic art to develop in wilder space. In such a context, it is believed that China’s traditional ceramic art with such a splendid history can find a special route of contemporary ceramic art in the art environment of diversity and internationalization. |
