As a miracle in the history of Chinese literature, the novel ADream of Red Mansions radiates a unique artistic charm.Throughout the ages, a large quantity of writers and scholarsdevoted themselves to the commentary and research of A Dream ofRed Mansions. They made numerous significant achievements.Nowadays, along with the development of the image era, i.e."mirrorimage culture", the modern culture calls for the imageddevelopment of literary works and makes a new interpretation ofliterature from, which exactly meets the aesthetic needs of themajority of the audience. Therefore, the related research topic onfilm&TV adaption and propagation of the most favored A Dream ofRed Mansions deserves to be thoroughly researched and learned.After the collation of the different sorts of film&TV adaption andpropagation of A Dream of Red Mansions, the author adopted thesignificant samples and analyzed them. Although they were of thesimilar artistic form, their film and TV interpretations weredifferent.In this paper, we focused on the film&TV adaption of A Dreamof Red Mansions. This paper was divided into five parts. It was discussed as follows:Part One: It was a brief literature review on film&TV adaptionof A Dream of Red Mansions. The author analysed the researchbackground, researches both at home and abroad, purposes of theresearch, the significance of the research, and research objectivesof this subject.Part Two: In this part, about film&TV adaption and propagationof A Dream of Red Mansions, the author discussed its threecharacteristics, the standard of a successful adaption, modes of itsadaption and propagation, feedback of the audience, andperplexities and reflections about its adaption.Part Three: It introduced the brief history of the film making of ADream of Red Mansions in the era of film. Some of the worksproduced in this period were also briefly mentioned. Among the“dream makers”(known as the film creators of A Dream of RedMansions),the important and representative ones were introducedand commented on. Furthermore, based on the audio-visuallanguage of film and TV, the author analysed the unique film andtelevision features of this film and its audience’s feelings by giving athorough and detailed explanation to the movie A Dream of RedMansions directed by Xie Tieli in1989.Part Four: This part listed the history of the TV plays namedafter A Dream of Red Mansions in the screen time and also analysedsome of the works. The distinguished and representativescreenwriters in such TV plays are briefly introduced andcommented on. The classic and most favoured version of A Dreamof Red Mansions, which was adapted as TV play in1987, was explicated in detail. In terms of film and TV narrative style, theauthor then discussed the selection of materials, the mise-en-scene,the setting of plot, the casting of actors and the various elements,along with the connotative function of different costume,adornment and hairstyle. Some of its existing shortcomings werealso briefly analysed.These two parts were the main body of this paper. By means offilm and TV, the different medium interpretations of A Dream of RedMansions were also compared from different aspects. From theperspective of the different aesthetic characteristics shown in thefilm and TV versions of A Dream of Red Mansions, the author made adetailed study on these two representative and classic worksamong the related films and TV plays. The different directive styleand guiding ideology of these two directors were also discussed inthis paper. Thus, there was a distinctive comparison between thesetwo chapters due to their different perspectives and differentsetting of the structure.Part Five: Conclusion.The innovation point of this thesis study is to: first, film and TVaesthetics, the use of media theory. Of a dream of red mansions asthe content of film and television institute is different from thetraditional mode of transmission (words of copying, printing, rapliterature of verbal communication, etc.) of the study, as a newcommunication means and ways, inevitably to the modern mediatheory and film and TV aesthetics and other related disciplinescontent as the theoretical basis and principle. Second, the researchmethods of innovation. The study of this thesis, by adopting the combination of the traditional and modern research methods.According to the characteristics of the research object, combinesvideo and text data, to collect existing text interpretation of theimage data, data concerns without the literal interpretation of theimage, but also for a dream of red mansions in-depth analysis theart of movies, TV plays, to fully demonstrate A Dream of RedMansions in different historical periods and social environment ofdifferent communication methods and media, to spread itsdramatization and process view, research which involves a series ofproblems.
