The Research On The Exhibition Of The First National Folk Arts And Crafts

The First "National Exhibition of Folk Arts and Crafts" was a national exhibition activity ofarts and crafts, which was held by Ministry of Culture during the early period of the founding ofnew China. After the founding of new China, our country’s social construction met a formidablechallenge. In order to adapt to the economic development, the CPC Central Committee intensifiedthe support for the handicraft industry which involves arts and crafts. In order to adapt to theeconomic development, the CPC Central Committee intensified the support for the arts and craftsindustry. In order to analyze the change, the development trend and the characteristics shown inthis particular era, this paper selects the historical event as the research topic and tries to analyzethe specific content and morphology of China’s arts and crafts production in the historic period ofindustrialization process from the level of arts and the aspects of politics, economy, society andculture.The paper reaches the conclusion that China’s arts and crafts were mainly composed of dailynecessities and "special arts and crafts" during the early period of the founding of new China. Thedaily necessities were mainly used for the basic needs of people’s daily lives and the special artsand crafts were mostly for export to earn foreign capital. As a product of the social economy, theproduction and sales of arts and crafts are closely linked with people’s lives. They play an important role in the national economy. This exhibition was a great success. From then on, China’sarts and crafts business developed rapidly, transforming from a separate management stage to acooperatives stage. Many folk crafts that had been discontinued or were on the brink of extinctionmade a restoration and development. Most of the craftsmen’s living conditions improved and theircreative enthusiasm were higher than ever before.Based on "The first Exhibition of National Folk Arts and Crafts", this paper shows the historyin which the arts and crafts industry made a self-adjustment to adapt to the social developmenttrend under the guidance of government and public cultural opinion. The paper focuses on theanalysis of the unique changes of the arts and crafts industry in the shape, decoration, theme andmaterial to adapt to the construction of new China. We try to tally up the development thread ofthe arts and crafts in this period, which helps explore the development way of the arts and craftsin today’s society of China.
