On The Strategies And Principles Employed In The Popular Science Translation For Young Readers

This translation practice report, based on the Chapter6and7of my translationtask of The Handy Philosophy Answer Book, conducts a preliminary study on thestrategies and principles employed in the popular science translation for youngreaders with the guidance of Skopostheory. Furthermore, the author has made acomprehensive summary pointing at the difficulties and confusion during in thetranslation task. The report consists of four major parts: the task description andprocedure, the theoretical guidance, the case analysis, and the summary andconclusion. The task description and procedure gives an overall introduction about thetask, including the task distribution, the task requirements, the time arrangement, andthe brief analysis of the translation text. The part of theoretical guidance is a basicinterpretation of the translation theory which is used in this translation practice report.The part of case study is the kernel of this report, using the Chinese version of theChapter6and7of The Handy Philosophy Answer Book as the analyzing material. Inthis part, the analysis and comparison on the characteristics of the style, thetranslation strategies and possible skills are discussed and illustrated profoundly.Finally, aiming at the popular science translation for young readers, the author hasmade a conclusion basing on his translation. Meanwhile, the author has tried to sumup his gains through the fulfillment of the translation, and analyzed the deficiency ofthe translator.
