Although he is far behind Chopin in his international status and numbers of oeuvre, Szymanowski is the most representative composer of Poland. He is not only a master of Poland’s musical creations in20th century, but also a spiritual representative of Poland’s musical culture which we can see in his talents and influence at every aspect. The musical creation of Szymanowski can be divided into three periods, namely, the Romantic Period, the Impressionism period, and the Nationality period. He started to absorb oriental music culture and western music culture in the Impressionism period, which is the transitional period of his musical creation. Gradually, in the Nationality period his works became more mature. Different from the early modeled and institutionalize music style, he established his new and independent music style by making it more three-dimensional in color and harmony. The author mainly focus on his2Mazurkas in Op-50. Mazurka is the name of Poland’s Folk Dance. There are three kinds of pace:fast, medium and slow. Generally the downbeat falls on the second or third beat and the rhythm is relatively fast which gives us a kind of cheerful feelings. Szymanowski created Mazurka Op.50in his late period. The present study mainly focuses on the first and second pieces. The first piece is slow in melody and seems to tell a story of his suffering in life by showing us strong anxieties and painful emotions. The second piece is in contrast with the first one. It is very lively, especially in the applications of Staccato. The author will specifically analyze these works from aspects like creation background, music style, form, mode tonality, harmony melody, rhythm and beat, music performance and so on.Through the study on szymanowski’s Mazurka Op.50, we can get a better understanding of the master and his Mazurka by appreciating his strong patriotism and national proud. Moreover, we can understand the development of Polish music in20th century.
