In the age of global economy and multi-culture, alien arts enters China’s arts world and China’s musical plays appear at this right moment as a new but potential form of arts. Today, the dreamy veil that hides musical plays has been uncovered before many domestic professionals and the music play is defined no longer merely as a simple and pompous literary farce of much fun, charm and pleasure but an aggressive reflection of positive significance in reality and profound social implications. This paper is organized by four parts. The preface is mainly about the research project’s scientific background and theories, objectives and approaches. Chapter I studies and analyzes the musical Cats. Chapter II runs a comparative analysis between Cats musical and Jinsha musical and arrives at some conclusions. Chapter III gives some opinions on the revitalization and development of China’s original musicals. The British musical Cast serves as one of four musicals famous in the West, distinguished in script, music creation, vocal music, aesthetic pursuit etc. This paper concludes its success by a careful study and analysis on its script source, music genres, and vocal music characteristics, compares with China’s original musical Jinsha in play-script, music and vocal music characteristics to derive the common things and differences in the musical play between East and West as arguments with the prospect of China’s musical plays as another argument, and finally puts forward some thoughts and proposals for the revitalization and development of China’s musicals by investigating and analyzing current situations of China’s original musicals hopefully serving as a contributor to China’s arts development. |
