Analysis Of Cognitive Context In Verbal Communication By Relevance Theory

Verbal communication of Human beings is a common social phenomenon, it is in the context on the basis of a dynamic process. Context is not only an important content but also a complex content in pragmatics. Domestic and foreign scholars have been a lot of research context. Traditional static context concept has been unable to explain for the dynamic process of verbal communication because verbal communication is a dynamic process. Therefore, Sperber and Wilson proposed a different with the traditional contextual view that is cognitive context in Relevance:Communication and Cognition, it is a dynamic concept of context. Cognitive context focus on the psychological state and cognitive processes in verbal communiction from a dynamic point of view and analyze them. There is a good explanation in the process of verbal communication.This paper start from the thoretical basis of relevance theory^verbal communication cognitive context and combine ostensive-inferential verbal communication model and analyze cognitive context in verbal communication. Cognitive context is an important factor in the successful verbal communication, and communicator plays an active role in verbal communication in order to achieve the communication. Since both sides of communication have different cognitive context, the same discourse is understood as different meanings. In other words, in the process of verbal communication, cognitive context is a key factor in the understanding of the discourse.This paper not only with the ostensive-inferential communicative model analyses cognitive context in verbal communication and its role, but also explains cognitive context and concentrates in the three aspects of national cultural differences、geographical cultural differences and times culture differences in verbal communication.From analysising cognitive context of verbal communication know that cognitive context plays a large role in verbal communication. Study of cognitive context has important practical significance and value in building social harmony. Therefore, in verbal communication, both sides of verbal communication achieve common cognitive context in order to successfully verbal communication.
