The Impact Of Niger Delta’s Ethnic Minority Organizations To Nigeria’s Political Development

A large number of ethnic minority, about 40, exist in niger delta and these minorities established many organizations gradually since 1990s.These minority organizations generated from niger delta’s present background of destitution, poor administration and marginalization,and also have deep origin in nigeria’s history and it’s social system. Basically, the evolution had come from preliminary stage to maligance stage that many civil rights organiztions and racial organizations emerged.Generally, civil rights organiztions act peacefully to pursue better living enviroment which represented by“Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People”.On the controry,racial organizations move violencely to get resource control or local autonomy which represented by“Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta”.These organization have had far-reaching and complex impacts on Nigeria’s political development.Some organizations,mainly the civil rights organiztions had make Nigeria’s democratization move ahead difficultly.They had promote protection of minority’s rights and urge Nigeria government improve administration level of niger delta.But the negative impacts predominated ,especially impacts from those racial organizations.Their activites not only had impact the economic enviroment and nation stability which are necessary to Nigeria’s political development,but also had influence Nigeria’s democratization directly.So it is high time to supervise these organizations that Nigeria government should guide these organizations to grow actively together with Nigeria’s political development。Obviously,it will be a systematic work since the background is complicated. Thus, Nigeria government may begin from improving people’s livehood and bringing good administration to build the economic and social environment. Meanwhile ,government should control their activity to inspire their positive function.
