With the developing of seismic exploration technique in the direction of multidimensional, multiparameter, multicomponent and high resolution, the seismic exploration data is increasing day by day,this gives the storage capacity of the memory and the Department of computer.The seismic prospecting data has redundancy,so the compression of data is possible.Taking wavelet transform on seismic exploration data transform not only can achieve the exploration data compression,but also a certain compression ratio can still satisfy the exploration precision. Firstly,this paper analyzes the existing wavelet base and select 10 kinds of wavelet base which is suitable for seismic exploration data.Then using 10 kinds of wavelet base to transform and inverse transform the seismic data through the lifting wavelet method.Finally,using SPIHT algorithm to make the compression and decompression code for the seismic data.By using the signal to noise ration,the residual energy and morphological to analyze and evaluate the orginal data, then the best wavelet base,the optimal transformation number and compression ration is determined.
