Scalar/tensor holographic modulated impedance surface is a special form of a holographic principle of impedance modulation of the surface. This antenna is a combination of optical holography and electromagnetic field, and the impedance modulation is realized with the theory of holography. Through the controlling of the radiation of surface currents, the purpose of design of antenna with special form and management of the scattering of incoming waves is achieved.This thesis firstly introduces the current status and perspectives of the research about optical holography, microwave holography and holographic antenna technology at home and abroad.Then, in chapter2, after the explaination of the operation principle of optical holography, the implementation method of holographic antenna is detailed compared with optical holography. Based on the explaination of these two particular electromagnetic type-surface wave and leaky wave, correctness of the theory of holographic impedance modulated antenna is deduced mathematically with the existing knowledge about sinusoidally modulated reactance surface.Through derivation, it is proved quite feasible to design holographic impedance modulated antenna with specific radiation properties under the guidance of holographic principle.It is told in chapter3that the mean to acquire the surface impedance date of various impedance surface structures, and a holographic impedance modulated antenna with a given radiation angle is fabricated and tested exploiting the surface-impedance curve about the square-patch. The last section mainly focuses on the study about the important parameters of holographic impedance modulated antenna, and especially for modulation depth, it make us doubt on the previous work.At last, a novel holographic impedance modulated antenna+microstrip structure is tried to solve the surface wave effect of microstrip antenna and then to improve the performance. With simulation and measured results, this idea is proved much practical. At the same time, in order to obtain a better bandwidth feature, the holographic impedance modulated antenna+E shape patch is tried. Further more, the holographic impedance modulated antenna+microstrip is conformed to the metal cylinder.
