ADP(Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate) crystal is one kind of KDP(Potassium dihydrogen phosphate) -type crystals, it has outstanding ferroelectric, piezoelectric and electro-optical properties, especially it can grow larger than other crystals and has excellent quality. So ADP crystal is widely used for the optical components, the harmonic generators in laser devices, Q-switches and so on.The quality of grown crystals is the foundation of crystal application, plenty of factors have effects on the quality of the crystal. It is a hot research field in crystallography that explores the theoretical methods and technical solutions to improve the quality of grown crystals. Among all the technology parameters, supersaturation is one of the most important factors, which decides the rate and stability of crystal growth as well as the crystal quality. So it is vital to determine the suitable supersaturation before crystal growth. The supersaturation range for rapid growth of ADP crystal at certain temperature was calculated theoretically. The supersaturated solutions with different concentration were prepared, then the ADP crystals were grown in the solutions using temperature reducing method. The phenomena of the crystal growth were observed during the growth process, the influence of supersaturation on the habit of crystal growth was studied. Some measurements were carried out to analysize the quality of grown crystals. The dislocation defects of ADP crystal were examined by metallographic microscope combined with chemical etching method. A synchrotron radiation X-ray topography was used to investigate the perfection of ADP crystals. The characterization of the thermal behavior was analyzed by a TG/DTA instrument. Finally, the influence factors of supersaturation on the crystal growth and quality were obtained.
