The precondition of separation high lime-depressed pyrite and arsenopryite by flotation is reactivating, while the traditional activators of sulfur ore such as sulfuric acid have lots of advantages. So it is necessary to develop the new activator for the separation lime-depressed pyrite and arsenopyrite.In this paper, the lime-depressed pyrite and arsenopryite pure minerals as the research object, the activation performance of six activators (sulfuric acid, oxalic acid, copper sulfate, ferrous sulfate, aluminum sulfate, ammonium bicarbonate) and their combination activator were studied in different systems. On the view of technique and economy, ammonium bicarbonate was thought effective and pollution-free, and a good result of the flotation separation of artificial mixture ore can be obtained by using it.The activation mechanism of ammonium bicarbonate was studied by electrochemical (cyclic voltammetry), found the ammonium bicarbonate can obviously activate lime-depressed pyrite, while the activation relatively weak for arsenopryite, as the cyclic voltammetry curve shown, along with the increase of ammonium bicarbonate, the cyclic voltammetry curve of lime-depressed pyrite shown that oxidation peak of the corresponding peak current and potential peak were decrease significantly, starting oxidation potential rise, pyrite surface is restored; while cyclic voltammetry curve of lime-depressed arsenopryite shown that oxidation peak of the corresponding peak current and potential peak decrease unconspicuous, arsenopryite surface can be restored while large amount of ammonium bicarbonate.The mechanism of ammonium bicarbonate and mineral surface was also study by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, found that lime-depressed pyrite and arsenopyrite mineral surface exist white stripe or dot adsorbate, the characteristic peak of Ca (2p) and Ca (2s) was been found, ammonium bicarbonate can remove the surface adsorbate of the lime-pyrite, also let the peaks of Ca (2p) and Ca (2s) disappear, while the surface adsorbate of arsenopyrite was removal weakly.Actual ore flotation studies had shown that ammonium bicarbonate as the activating agent, followed by the use of arsenic-sulfur principle of flotation processes, laboratory small closed-circuit test get sulphur-concentrate contains sulphur47.02%, contains arsenic0.79%, sulfur recovery rate of74.92%; arsenic-concentrate contains sulphur22.42%, contains arsenic23.82%, arsenic recovery rate of89.19%.
