Yttria-stabilized zirconia powders as a fuel cell electrolyte materials have very important application value. Preparation of homogeneous components, small particle size, narrow particle size distribution, specific surface area and less aggregation ideal YSZ powder is always related research hotspot. This study explored the technology of preparing YSZ powder, mainly includes the following aspects of the work:(1) In this study, we prepared precursor by sol gel method, explored the effects of reaction temperature, stirring speed, titration speed as well as the ion concentration on the stability of gel precursor. The conclusion is that reaction temperature of60℃, stirring speed of600, the titration speed of0.5are more conducive to the formation of a uniform and stable gel system. We obtained the monoclinic phase YSZ powder from by the stable gel precursor by hydrothermal treatment.(2) By using acetic acid as hydrolysis inhibitors, we obtained homogeneous and stable gel precursor at higher PH. We give a200℃24h hydrothermal treatment to these precursor so that we obtained pure cubic phase YSZ powder which was observed by SEM morphology to show it’s morphology characteristics.(3) Nanocrystalline YSZ with pure cubic phase was obtained both by homogeneous urea co-precipitation method with a two-step hydrothermal treatment. The results indicated that increasing of the cation or urea concentration made against the yielding of cubic phase YSZ, but decreased the primary crystal size. By using acetic acid as the hydrolysis inhibitor could effectively avoid the formation of monoclinic phase, and the primary crystal size would be decreased with the increasing of the acetic acid concentration.(4) The urea-coprecipitation method yielded powders with smaller size and fewer reunion than sol-gel method, meanwhile it’s process is more simple so that it is more suitable for the mass production.
