In this paper, the nucleation and growth of CaCO3crystals under different organic additives were investigated. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SDS), hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB),1,3,5-triethylbenzene (TMB) and dicarboxylic acid were used to modify CaCO3. The obtained results were as follows:1. Novel morphology of CaCO3was synthesized with the help of SDS. The phase transition from vaterite to calcite was captured, and the formation mechanisms were discussed.2. Different morphology of CaCO3was synthesized with the help of the mixed surfactants. The transition from vaterite to aragonite was realized by the choice of the suitable ratio of SDS to CTAB. It is worth noticed that, the interaction of SDS and CTAB plays an important role on the phase transformation of CaCO3.3. The interaction of SDS and TMB can influence the nucleation and growth of calcium carbonate. TMB can disperse in hydrophobic chains and adjust the distance of hydrophilic group, thus changing the distance between calcium ions. Calcium carbonate was successfully synthesized in this study.4. Dicarboxylic acids were also used to influence the crystallization of calcium carbonate. Different stereochemical structure is the main reason to affect the morphology and polymorph of calcium carbonate.
