In this paper, ten biazo anthraquinone compounds have been synthesized by diazotization reaction and coupling reaction. Six of the ten biazo anthraquinone compounds have not been reported up to date. They were confirmed by element analysis, IR, mass spectrum and 1HNMR spectra.The effect of conditions of coupling reaction on the yield of biazo anthraquinone compounds was studied. The solubility of the bisazo compounds in some solvents, such as N,N-dimethyl formamide, methanol, acetone, tetrahydrofuranan ethyl acetate, et al, were tested. Fluorescence spectra and electronic absorption of the biazo anthraquinone compounds have been studied. The thermal analysis for the biazo compounds was done with TG-DTA and the thermal decomposition mechanism of different complexes was discussed. Third-order nonlinear susceptibility of the bisazo compounds has been tested by Z-scan.The coordination properties of the biazo anthraquinone compounds have been studied. The ratio of ligand and central metal in the chelates and the apparent equilibrium constants were investigated.
